Math: average gestation = 63 days from mating (AKC cites a 62–64-day window) on the AKC dog pregnancy page. Conception doesn't always land exactly on the mating date, so treat the date as a planning window, not a guarantee — and the labor signs above, not the calendar, as the real signal. Estimate only — not vet advice.

Dates handled — now answer back, between checks

A due-date window doesn't fill the quiet hours before whelping. Open Dog & Cat Translator Pro, speak or tap, and play a bark or meow back while you wait on the real signs. Entertainment only; it does not track pregnancy or decode a real bark.

Phone held toward a dog — speak or tap in Dog Translator to play a bark back

After the countdown, talk back

Keep the due-date window in mind, then open the app on your iPhone between checks on mom. Speak a line or tap a ready sound — it plays dog- and cat-like sounds back in real time. That is the whole loop: calculator for the dates, app for a playful reply. Free to download on iOS 16 or newer; key sound features need the $9.99/year subscription shown in the App Store before you pay.

Why the date alone isn't the whole answer

On the AKC dog pregnancy page, the Merck Veterinary Manual is blunt about this: predicting delivery timing is difficult, because the date of mating doesn't always match the date of conception. That's why this calculator shows a window (62–64 days), not a single guaranteed date, and why the week-by-week checklist leans on vet tests — a relaxin blood test, palpation, ultrasound, an X-ray late on — rather than the calendar alone. Past day 64 with no sign of whelping, AKC's advice is to call the vet, not keep waiting.

Already past the due window and counting cries instead of days? Our newborn puppy crying sounds guide covers the first three weeks after birth — which cry means cold, which means hungry, and when a whimper needs a vet instead of a warm towel.

Once the litter's weaned and weighing in on its own, our puppy weight calculator turns a current weigh-in into a predicted adult size.

Litter's on the way — reply in their sounds

Whelping is hands-on; no app replaces a scale, a warm room, and a vet on speed dial. When there's a calm minute, open Dog & Cat Translator Pro and tap a reply instead of just waiting. Same entertainment toy either way — it plays sounds; it does not track due dates or litters.

Frequently asked questions

About 62–64 days from mating, or roughly two months. That figure and the week-by-week timeline on this page come from AKC's dog-pregnancy guide, quoting AKC chief veterinarian Dr. Jerry Klein and the Merck Veterinary Manual. The same source notes timing can be hard to pin down exactly, since the date of mating doesn't always match the date of conception.
